As far as cooking the black eyed peas, it was fine. However there was WAY too much oregano, and it took over the taste of the whole thing. Also besides the overwhelming taste of oregano, there was too much garlic and you didn’t even taste the smoke flavoring. Overall very disapointing. Will not make again.

Hi Steph,

Good question. You just boil the peas in water and then strain out the water and put them in with the rest of the ingredients, including the broth. I have updated the recipe to make it clear.

So do you boil the peas in the stock and add the whole thing to the crock pot? Or strain the peas and then put them in with the rest of the ingredients?
