Homemade Moroccan Spice Mix Recipe

This homemade Moroccan spice mix recipe uses these six ground spices: Ginger, White Pepper, Coriander, Turmeric, Allspice, and Cinnamon for a Moroccan seasoning you can use to make your next Moroccan dish.

Hi, guys! Today’s post is about the benefits of cooking with spice blends, and includes a recipe for making your own Moroccan Spice Mix at home.

Moroccan Seasoning Recipe

I’m a huge fan of cooking with spice mixtures and blends. It’s a fantastic way to add extra flavor and aroma to your meals without adding additional fat and calories. Cooking with spice blends also makes it easy to take a tried and true recipe and turn it into something completely different.

A plain chicken breast can be transformed with Ethopian Berbere seasoning, while a piece of white fish can be seasoned with Greek or Cajun mix for two totally different flavor profiles. You can do the same with these Moroccan spices.

It’s easy to clutter up your spice rack by purchasing pre-bottled spice mixtures, but I prefer to make my own and save the precious space in my pantry! Spices and mixtures really only last about a year or so before they lose their potency, so unless you really think you’ll go through a whole jar of a spice mixture it doesn’t make sense to spend the money.

You’d be surprised how many different spice mixtures you can make from a basic, well-stocked spice pantry.

Moroccan Spice Blend

This Moroccan spice mixture calls for six ground spices: Ginger, White Pepper, Coriander, Turmeric, Allspice, and Cinnamon. You can use each of these spices for many other recipes and mixtures, so go ahead and invest in a good bottle of each.

Moroccan Seasoning Recipe

If you know you’ll use it all up, you can make a large batch of the spice mixture and store it in one of these SimpleHouseware 12 Square Spice Bottles (4oz) w/label Set.

Otherwise, just make enough to season the recipe you’re making it for. If you need a Moroccan spice recipe to try this mix on, check out this Slow Cooked Moroccan Apricot Chicken recipe!

  1. I felt a hard flavour of cummin while tried a store brought Moroccan spice mix. Is it a derived flavour from the mentioned 6 ingredients

  2. Just put all the ingredients in a pot to make a slow cooked Moroccan lamb shanks and realized I was out of Moroccan spice mix. Made this up and put it in the pot. Smells and tastes amazing. I think it is better than the store bought. Thank you for saving my recipe. <3

  3. My sister brought a spice mix home for me from Morocco… I can’t wait for your Moroccan chicken recipe! I’m glad I know how to replenish my spice mix as well 🙂 Looks great.
