What are Chocolate Crinkle Cookies?

Chocolate crinkle cookies are yummy treats that people love during the holidays, but you can enjoy them anytime! They’re soft cookies made from chocolate chips and oats. Before they go into the oven, the cookies get a nice dip in powdered sugar. As they bake, they crack open, creating a cool “crinkly” look.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t Overmix the Dough: Mix ingredients in a medium bowl just until a dough forms. Avoid overmixing to prevent tough cookies.
  • Prepare Your Baking Sheets for Easy Handling: Consider using parchment paper or silicone mats on your baking sheets for easier cookie removal.
  • Bake One Sheet of Cookies at a Time: Bake a single sheet at a time to ensure even heat distribution and proper baking with attractive cracks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do cookies crinkle?

Cookies crinkle because the outside gets dry and hard quickly while the inside stays soft and wet during baking. This contrast causes the surface to crack or crinkle.

What is another name for chocolate crinkle cookies?

There are many other names for these cookies, including Snow Topped Mountains, Crackled Cookies, and Dirty Snowballs.

Can I make the dough in advance and freeze it?

Certainly! Freeze your cookie dough in an airtight container for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to bake, remove from the freezer and thaw in the fridge for 30 minutes. Then, coat with powdered sugar and follow the baking instructions.

How can you tell when Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are ready?

You’ll know the cookies are ready when they develop cracked tops and a glossy center. They will continue baking slightly even after you remove them from the oven.

    1. Hi Luann,

Yes, they will mail well, just make sure you have them in an air tight container and you use wax paper between each layer and to take up any extra air space so they don’t bounce around during shipping.
